it all started with the three wheelers getting haulted and this in turn stopped all factory support for quads. but now it is just starting to pick back up again and i can assure you in ten years or so the quads will be just as, if not more, popular than the bikes. Recently can am, yamaha, polaris, and some youth bike manufacturers have stepped up to the plate and started factory rides. the others will soon follow, YEAH!!!

irresponsibility has nothing to do with it. are you saying there are no irresponsible dirtbikers? that's not the problem.
not as much coverage, it's new, and dirtbikes dominate because they just go bigger.
we have plenty of factory support. Polaris and hbomb? can-am and akraix? thats only freestyle.

You're pretty young, so you're likely not aware of the CPSC ban enacted in 1986 thanks to the numerous helmet-less and drunken fools who killed and paralyzed themselves on the threewheelers, sensationalized in the media, causing general consumers to shy away from quads and, in turn, most of the major manufacturers to drop their sport/high performance models (Kawasaki 1988, Honda 1989, Suzuki 1992)and shun the sport until about 1999 (Honda 400ex). Irresponsibility had everything to do with it.

Funny you mention that, check the motorcycle fatality statistics for states that allow helmetless riding. An overwhelming percentage involve helmetless riders on large bikes (cruisers) under the influence of alcohol... but no one has proposed a ban on cruiser motorcycles, even though so many of them are "irresponsible." Funnier still that a number of states either have no helmet laws for street motorcycles or (even worse) have repealed helmet laws. How many require ATV helmets? Its a stigma.
