Well those were my seniments about the Patriot act but i think its actually an acronym for something "P/roviding A/ppropriate T/ools R/equired to I/ntercept and O/bstruct T/errorism Act".
Nevertheless i agree. The patriot act is 10 times the threat to liberty then is Al quaeda or terrorism. You dont start fucking with the most basic rights written in the constituion because you're scared.

No constitutional provision is violated by the Patriot Act. And it has nothing to do with being "scared" it has to do with acknowledging facts of what these maniacs have in mind for us and what we need to do to stop it. Yea lincoln temporarily suspended the constituion during the civil war, just cuz he was a good president doesn't justify it. The Patriot act allows wiring taping and monitoring of emails and phone calls and shit for whoever they see fit, it easily violates the first amendment

Whether it justifies it or not, Lincoln's actions are the reason this country still exists today. The constitution is not a suicide pact. And being able to get intelligence on terror plots doesn't violate anything in the first amendment. Sorry to inform you, but no legal scholar has EVER argued that. Those against the provisions in the Patriot Act argue on 4th, 5th, and 6th amendment grounds, but they run into trouble because those refer to court proceedings, not intelligence gathering.

The country would have still been around today regardless of the outcome of the Civil War. We may not have had the south, big woop. I fail to see how Lincoln suspendin the constitution in any way whatsoever contributed to the country stayin together or ending slavery.
And yes there has been plenty of problems with intelligence gathering under the patriot act. Look up about a professor at the University of Buffalo and what the act did or some of the issues of being able to keep and share records

No, the South likely would have won had it not been for Lincoln's ability to take broad strokes to protect this nation. Same with today. If we tie our hands with intelligence gathering, we'll get hit again, no question about it. As to that U of Buffalo thing, you're going to have to be more specific. But either way, whatever it is, it would have to do with how something is carried out, not the legality of the act itself. The constitution is not a suicide pact.

O'Reilly and Kucinich are right. Supply and demand fundamentals do not account for the rise of oil up to $149 a barrel and back down to under $50 in a year. Funny that when credit dried up, the speculators quit bidding up oil.
