The Indonesian Mimic Octopus

Uploaded by: marcelnad
Video Description:
--- English --- The Indonesian Mimic Octopus, Thaumoctopus mimicus. This fascinating creature was discovered in 1998 off the coast of Sulawesi in Indonesia, the mimic octopus is the first known species to take on the characteristics of multiple species. This octopus is able to copy the physical likeness and movement of more than fifteen different species, including sea snakes, lionfish, flatfish, brittle stars, giant crabs, sea shells, stingrays, jellyfish, sea anemones, and mantis shrimp. This animal is so intelligent that it is able to discern which dangerous sea creature to impersonate that will present the greatest threat to its current possible predator. For example, scientists observed that when the octopus was attacked by territorial damselfishes, it mimicked the banded sea snake, a known predator of damselfishes.

such beautiful and mesmerizing animals, cephalopods looks like clumsy animals in photographs then you watch them move and they can put you in a trance, then they change colors and leave you speechless then they do this and you begin to wish you were an octopus.

Just to point out, Octopus is derived from Ancient Greek, not Latin. Thus Octopi could never really be correct. What you were looking for would be Octopodes, though this doesn't invalidate your point at all.

We used to have one at the Oklahoma Aquarium. Was pretty awesome to watch him. He was wild caught so I couldnt really comment on wether the imitations are learned or inherent or not, but he was directly across from a Nettle tank and he seemed to imitate a Jelly alot.
Very awesome creature, until it started refusing to eat. Then we went back to a common.

Uh, what? Being atheist doesn't mean you have fewer morals. What the hell are you talking about? Atheists are the ones MORE likely to live a good life because they believe they only get this one existence.

I can't believe you're this ignorant. DARWIN BELIEVED IN GOD, DUMBASS. He never, ever once said that evolution was evidence against creation, and few modern scientists believe such a thing either. Furthermore, evolution was known long before Darwin was ever even born.
Darwin didn't ... ( 4 days ago by mln9898)
Darwin didn't believe in God, he may have referred to it sometimes or sort of insinuated it at times because his wife was deeply religious and because of pressures from the community. Evolution is against creation as we know it in creationism stories... everything couldn't have been created in 6 days or 6000 years ago... and evolution by natural selection, genetic drift, etc. doesn't have room for a creator God interfering.

No, he was definitely a more active believer than that for some time, and he ultimately declared himself agnostic, not atheist, after the deaths of his father and daughter.
- His final say on ... ( 4 days ago by Scythemantis)
- His final say on the matter was that he had difficulty seeing any evidence of a benevolent creator due to so much suffering in the world, but (quite) "on the other hand, I cannot anyhow be contented to view this wonderful universe, and especially the nature of man, and to conclude that everything is the result of brute force. I am inclined to look at everything as resulting from designed laws, with the details, whether good or bad, left to the working out of what we may call chance"
