A balancing scooter using a go-kart wheel, a 400 Watt 24V DC Motor, an OSMC and a PIC microcontroller. A simple PID control at 100 Hz balances the assembly.

Fantastic. Well done. One advantage over segway is that you can jump forwards off it without impaling yourself on the handlebars if it goes wrong or suddenly stops.
If ridden at night with some strobing bright luxeon LEDS underneath + maybe a tiny headlamp in the front end and it would look as close to a "hoverboard" as you could possibly get!
