Fatal High Speed Head On With Extrication - Spanaway WA

Video Description:
June 16, 2007. 6:30am. The 21500 block of Highway 7 in Spanaway, WA. The driver of the white F150 was at fault and died at the scene. Drugs or alchohol was not involved. It's believed that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel or more than likely had some type of medical problem prior to the crash. CPR was peformed unsuccessfully. The driver of the Dakota was trapped. It took 40 minutes to extricate the victim. He had serious injuries, but will survive. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident.

He had already been extricated before I arrived, and it's about 10 minutes into the extrication of the surviving driver when I get the camera rolling. You are right about the respect for the dead.

1. why would someone pull up at a fatal accident and "start th camera rolling".
2. why does HolyHellPreacher want to see footage of the person who died on here?
If it were you or a family member would you want it seen on youtube?

I can't answer #2. To answer #1. I responded to the dispatch knowing this was fatal. I'm a newsphotographer/cameraman. That's why my videos have the I-4NEWS watermark. I've been doing this for nearly 20 years and all 4 network affiliates aired the story.

Heres a question, why isn't the one F.F. wearing his proper P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) He should not be using the hydraulics without that. He is trained and should know better.

cadrat, i know this may sound weird but as a volunteer firefighter in missouri you have to understand that every car accident is different so that means every cut, every way we move paitents, every scene is different so this is a good "training" video sometime we can learn by watching its sad that the paitent died but we put on our game face and get the job done.

and why isn't that ff in the cairns helmet wearing his goggles.... they sure are doing him a lot of good on the back of his helmet.. and the ff without full PPE (jacket) JUST started to use his goggles AFTER a couple min...... seems a little wierd cause in class thats all they do is PREACH ff safety and to wear the correct PPE.....thats a good way to lose your job with my dept PRONTO!!

No casualty c-spine support - very very bad technique. There should be a paramedic/ff in there supporting the casualty's head. A collar will only offer approx 20%...

Can't believe that the mid- sized dakota did better than the full sized f-150. Look how the passenger compartment maintains its shape in the dakota, while the f-150's frame collapses and the passenger compartment is destroyed.

what amazed me more was seeing a Saturn sky (same as a Pontiac solstice) vs a Chevy impala head on, the sky did amazingly well with very little passenger compartment deformation. the front end was non existent though

of course they are...they get triggered at much lower speeds then what caused that and it was right on the sensors for them.
