The strat is gonna be WAY better at Shredding and solos. I Have a Gretsch electromatic pro Jet (single cut) and the neck on the gretsch is thicker than a freaking baseball bat. Strats usually have a very nice thin neck for fast playing and stuff.

Im thinking about removing the volume knob out of the way. Its tricky though because i have a carvin pre-assemble pick guard and they have a switch at the bottom where the tone knobs should be and i dont know if i should remove it or just drill another hole and replace it with the volume knob

you could drill it, but you would need to un-solder it then solder all the wires again. idk im not such an expert but i did solder the controls once from a guitar

The older 50's strats had a thicker "V" neck, unlike the thinner "C" neck we have these days.. i kinda dig the feel of a more substantial neck, sanded almost to bare wood :)
