Not yet, but other progress has been made in blocking off major access points to the area. It seems like it's always 3 steps forward and 2 steps back though. Still, we're not giving up!

I was mountain biking out at Power and Thomas today (Hawes) and we got a rare siting of a Gila Monster in the wild! Way cool! Have you thought about posting some signs along the road warning users to use caution? Just a thought since the road is still active.

I used to live in east Mesa so I know how that area's developing. Glad you got to see one so close! Yeah, we thought about signs but the authorities advised against it because of the unintended probable effect of attracting poachers.

tecnically there not venomous cuz they dont produce venom in venom glands,but i know they have deadly strands of bacteria...i give you respect tho...there dangerous reptiles...very nice vid =] keep them up

they do have venom, they one of two lizards that are poisonous in the world, the other being the beaded lizard

accually gila monsters have poison glands in their bites and the toxins are strong enough to kill a elephant. its not bacteria in saliva. if that was the case then the food they eat wouldnt die very quickly.

Yes! The compound found in their saliva was synthesized fortunately so no Gila Monsters have to be used to produce it. And now the drug works better than other diabetes drugs and lasts longer in the body than the human hormonal equivalent. Thanks to this awesome lizard!

Very impressive observation video and narrative. Top quality. Very informative. The Gila is my favorite reptile. Have had an interest in Gila's for more than 35 years. However, I've seen only one Gila in the wild (unfortunately a DOR specimen) in Organ Pipe NP area many years ago.
