I came to the same conclusions a while back when contemplating time travel.
Consider that time can only move forwards, but you find a way to jump backwards to a certain spot on the "film."
Any thing that interacts with you would surely alter the time line, but time has already been written so you are just moving around "waste" because the present is disconnected from the past ie it cannot interact and thus not change the past. So the past is not "parallel," but a disconnected reality.

Maybe too sure of himself. There's a few interpretations of quantum mechanics, the Many Worlds theory just being one, but the truth is that no one really knows what quantum mechanics is saying. So to say that Many Worlds theory is THE modern view is a pretty cocky announcement in scientific circles.
Still, it's all very interesting.

I don't think that's what he's saying... Kaku is a popularizer of science - he says things in a way that most people can understand the concepts. This is just one of the easier ones to explain... Try explaining some of the other concepts (relative distance, perhaps) to someone with no knowledge of quantum mechanics... It's a bitch :P
