I kind of disagree.. i think what made Pavarotti great was his technique... projection, sustain, range, etc; but he did not have the most naturally beautiful voice. Carreras probably has that claim but his technique held him back a bit. DOmingo was a great mix of the two, and so was Mario Lanza, my favorite.

Listen to Juan Diego Florez, he is a peruvian singer and from my point of view is the perfect voice for this song, it just melt with music and make a perfect match....

I've heard him, I like him but can't call him elite like those I mentioned... to each his own though, it's all great music which should be more appreciated

Florez, like Domingo, is excells in this aria. If you like a sweet light voice for Nemorino, may I recommend the underappreciated Ferruccio Tagliavini (represented by two YouTube clips -- I prefer the one in color).

This is beautiful. His voice is so beautiful. But it is really heavy, Florez's is lighter. Florez has more emotion in his voice this is nice though!

For most naturally beautiful voice I'd give my vote to di Stefano or Wunderlich. For pure quality, Lanza or Caruso. For excitement, Corelli, Tucker, or del Monaco. As far as my favorite rendition of Una furtiva, I'd have to give my vote to di Stefano. Never have been a big fan of Placido, sorry. He always seemed too strained in my opinion.

I know what you mean about sounding strained. He had a hard time with the high notes. I like Domingo as a whole; he was a fine actor, an excellent piano player and conductor as well. But just on the voice alone I certainly wouldnt call hi mthe best

Signor Domingo, Since you a singer praised for your so called ''musicality'' and respect to composers, you should know these little symbols above the notes have a meaning.P stands for piano,pp for pianissimo. If you don't control the dynamics and you don't use a variety of vocal colors you would sound monochromatic and boring.

Um, this isn't pavarotti. It's Placido! And as for the stained thing, I agree, but it gives his voice a dynamic quality.

Hello, I enjoy this song very much. It is wonderful. And when a good voice sings it,like Placido, gives a special "thing" to it. Many good singers can sing this song, but, to my ears, there's no opera singer as Placido.
You are right that ...( 2 days ago by Helsingen)
You are right that Pavarotti sings this aria more technically. Is Domingo torturing himself? Yes. But my point is, even though that it's a smaller point of view, is that Domingo's version more makes me "trust" in the aria. When you listen to it and try to put it in it's context: A suffering guy who is desperate to win his dream lady's heart, does really make Domingo's performance beautiful for my part.
As far as my favorite rendition of Una furtiva, I'd have to give my vote to di Stefano.
