It isn't "destroying the environment" no more than building your house "destroyed the environment". The space a small town takes up "destroys" more plants and trees than an oil pump, if you want to simplify it all down to "humans changing their environment". ALL animals change their environment; if they didn't they'd be dead. It's how you do it that matters.
That said, they drill in TOWNS all the time! Why the fuck couldn't we move some of our efforts AWAY from towns? Humans come first, mate...

Don't let alarmist ideas make you stupid: oil spills = bad, more oil = good.
We need to move to other cleaner renewable energy sources ASAP, but ASAP isn't right now. Right now, and for at least another decade, we're going to have to have oil. And unless we want to play Mad Max 5 (laughable, I know), it's best to find new sources rather than squabble over what we have.

I know everybody thinks this is going to fix gas prices, but it won't. It's going to take well over 10 years to yeild anything and China will buy most of it (we owe them hundreds of billions of dollars). In addition-every single hurricane that goes through-there are oil spill. Deliberately mildly reported in the news. Hurricane Katrina had 44 separate oil spills-thousands of gallons of crude in the ocean; even Kyle spilled oil. Just what we need-more drilling in hurricane infested waters. Smart

Did you know in China 640,000 people die every year from-->pollution. Did you know crude oil, that spills into oceans with each hurrican-never goes away. Each hurricane that goes through there is a major oil spill. Hurricane Katrina had 44 separate oil spills dumping thousands of gallons of crude into the ocean. Even Hurrican Kyle had some offshore spilling. Problem with crude in oceans-you can't get rid of it, but you eat it-it gets into the fish. Enjoy your colon cancers.

Actually why not now? You can do a lot of progress in 10 years. Already-Telsa motors is an electric car that runs on 200 miles per charge at a cost of one cent per mile. 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds. Ultra quite engine. The battery will last about 150,000 miles. Electricity is cheap-I have several solar panels that power my computer, speakers and screen at all times. The batteries only take a few hours to charge up in the morning from the panels. You also have wind and hydrogen energy sources.

Any offshore drilling we do will not be available until 2030. Also must understand that any oil we produce goes to countries like Japan as well. Also it really hurts the enviroment. The problem is when need long term solutions for getting away from our dependency on foreign oil & have better energy bills. We will not have this under a Republican watch because they're pro-oil companies.

True, I'd agree with you if you have the means. What I'm saying is not every family in America has the cash set aside to buy a vehicle right now (especially not a new vehicle). What do you think middle and lower income families will be needing to run their cars until they do have it in their budget to buy an electric vehicle?

The government should have been encouraging alternative vehicle technology since the Nixon years. And you are right-most people cannot afford the price of electric cars now. But you can do a lot in ten years-by that time they will become affordable. Point is, drilling will take 10+ years to yeild anything-and *most will be sold to China*. Most of the Alaskian oil is sold to Asian countries already.

$2 a gallon gas will never happen-ever again. Crude gets sold to the world market-whereas China and India's technologies rivals our own. That means competition which means higher fuel costs. With more offshore drilling, expect more oil spills in the ocean. Remember the golf is hurricane infested water. Each hurricane had offshore oil spills-barely covered in the media,but it happened. Yes and they blatantly lie-I heard a LOT of politicans say offshore drilling is envirnomentally friendly. *Every single hurricane that went through the golf produced oil spills*. Katrina had 44 scattered oil spills and dumped literally thousands of gallons of crude into the ocean.
