Meh, I read the book a gazillion times and although Dahl's vision was dark indeed, the Wilder movie was different but just as dark. And in Dahl, Wonka was a likeable, touching creature. Not twitchy and creepy and Michael Jackson-esque. Wilder's puckish Wonka is sublime and trumps Depp's unpleasant portrayal effortlessly. (And I love Johnny!) This song breaks my heart. Love it, love it, love it.
