you can play metal on any good electric guitar man.even if the fender doesnt have EMG pickups or Seymour Duncans or any other of those pickups,just connect the guitar to a good amp, or a good distortion pedal like Digitech Metal MAster or Digitech Death Metal.if you want you can also change the pickups

You will get the best overdrive with a Gibson. Gibson has a warmer, fatter sound and the position of the head, the humbuckers, the body,... will make you'll get more feedback and overdrive with a Les Paul.
You just need both Fender and Gibson, they are totally contrary to each other, but in a way they just match perfectly :-)
