They weren't cool and they couldn't surf? How do you know that? Mainstream back then wasn't like mainstream is now. Mainstream music back in the day was GOOD MUSIC. i.e. The Beatles & The Beach Boys. The Beach Boys, thanks to Brian Wilson were amazing musically. Brian Wilson has written and performed some of the best music, featuring some of the best harmony, that I've ever heard. Just listen to God Only Knows, Good Vibrations, and anything off of his album SMiLE.
