Blind Guardian is a German power metal band which formed in the mid-1980s in Krefeld, Germany. Before calling themselves Blind Guardian, the band released two demos under the name Lucifer's Heritage in 1985 and 1986.
From the beginning, Blind Guardian has been inspired by the fiction of authors such as J. R. R. Tolkien, Stephen King, and Michael Moorcock, as well as traditional legends and epics. Over the years, a running theme has developed associating the band members with traveling bards.
This is Blind Guardian.. Singing "Lord of the Rings" Song Was Recorded Before the movie.

it'd make sense too, but keeping an object from sorrow? sounds kinda weird. but "ring full of sorrow" gives the idea of the burden that befalls on the ring bearer. don't forget it's a cursed ring, which haunts its bearer, and could mean the end of all Middle Earth. imo it IS a ring full of sorrow. the sorrow of those dead in the war, and the sorrow from its bearer

i think it's not much of a emotional bond, it's more of a...hmm, how to put it...obsession (spelling?) over it. the ring makes the bearer want to give up anything for him. it drives ppl mad.
then again, i don't recall much from the books nowadays, been too long since i've read them xD

British press coined the term "Krautrock" in the 70s to describe a new wave of german musicians (Kraftwerk, Popol Vuh, Tangerine Dream). I don't think they wanted to be offensive, just they choose the wrong words.
Anyway, I have heard some harsh commentaries using the words "Sudländer", "Dritte Welt", "exotisch" (meaning "inferior"), "Spaghetti-fresser" (meaning "italian"),...but they were made by impolite, and unfriendly people. Which, by good fortune, are a minority.

I never heard a song of Metallica about Tolkien, mytholology or epic, except some songs about Ctuluh myhts (H.P Lovecraft). Styles, lyrics, voice, harmony are quite different between Metallica and Blind Guardian.

metallica? they might have influenced blind guardian's early speed metal days, but i doubt it. They play a completely different kind of metal. If you're looking for bands that influenced Blind Guardian, look no further than Helloween. (especially the keeper of the seven keys albums)
