they only played the 2 songs. they should have also played Pride but with Bad over running with the audience participation they didn't have time for it which is why Bono looks pissed off as he walks off stage.

I love U2. I've loved them since I first bought the Boy album. And Bono is great on stage which, of course, they have proven over the years. But he's not even close to Freddies precence on stage. He was unique.

"WhoDoYouWant": What? Queen is pop and U2 is rock? Are you kidding? :D Maybe you should get familiar to Queens discography, not just "Radio Ga Ga" and so on. In the 70's and in the beginning on 90's Queen were so rock... U2 to is a pop band comparing to Queen! Btw. compare Queen's Live Aid performance to U2's...

This was the exact moment U2 went from cult band to mainstream. Less than two years later, they were on the cover of "Time" magazine.

What an amazing moment in rock history. I'd always been a semi U2 fan up to this point, but from then on I was a major fan. Arguably the greatest performance of Live Aid.

Best version of Bad ever. Absolutely incredible. I was reading or watching an interview with the band where they were saying that they thought they had screwed everything up - cuz Bono went off on his walk about/vision quest into the audience. Bono was really depressed after but then the great reviews started coming in in the days following. LOVE the guitar riff!!!!!

elton john, dave grohl, and almost all people who objectively watched both groups would admit that Queen stole the show that day... nothing against U2, they're great, but Freddie was on fire that day.

Nothing against U2, they are a fantastic band, and this is a great performance by Bono. But Queen and Freddie were on fire that day, it would have been hard for anyone to compare to their performance... it wasn't even that close, to be honest. You only have to go watch the crowd to see who was better that day.

SingerOfSongs: What? I'm old enough to remember all about Queen in the seventies! And I liked them - and Freddie was a great showman. But.., to compare them to the raw, discordant, sometimes offkey, sometimes spitting at the audience, juvenile rant and sonic intensity of U2 is quite simply wrong. Queen were a pop band - colourful, theatrical, symphonic in musical correctness, indifferent to lyrics. The Doors = rock, The Beatles = pop. Both legitimate but very different styles.

anyone who try to compare queen and U2, what are you guys thinking? u2 and queen are two completely different bands, and they both have sucsess, iven though I think U2 sucks now. (sorry for my bad english)

Yes, Freddie worked the crowd much better than Bono. But I don't think the crowd is necessarily a fair yardstick(or meterstick ifyou will)since Bono had a much different agenda than Freddie. They were at much different points in their careers. Queen played their hits and did a spectacular job. But Bono's ad libbing reached the demographic that was far more important than those at Wembley; that was the untold millions watching on tv; those who would guarantee U2's success for many years to come.

I was 14 and remember taping this. I remember crying because of certainty that we would eradicate hunger with this concert. I was 14 and naive. However - today I still have hope - due to this song - my all time favorite song. When I sing along I feel like I'm praying.

i agree with teehe65, queen and u2 are different bands, so they really shouldn't be compared. my post below was basically a response to all the people claiming that u2 kicked queen's ass this day, which is just preposterous (and naive). i'm biased towards queen anyway, but on this particular day, I think queen gave an absolutely awesome performance. some of freddie's later performances weren't as good as at live aid, 1985.
