I always wondered...How "environmental" is Cement? Some people tell you not to use too much of it because of all the manufacturing and transportation it has involved with it to get it where it needs to go, wasting more energy...what do you do if your wantinf to avoid this?
Cement is not ...( 8 months ago by PCX13J)
Cement is not environmentally friendly. To be honest, I'm just too chicken not to use it. I've used hydrated lime on test blocks with success. I made a small test wall with no cement once that held up for 6 months or so with very little protection. I destroyed it because it was in the way... from my experience I am convinced that no cement would be fine with the correct sand/clay mix and a very good roof. As a last note, real rammed earth is just what it is with no additives.

Understood. It's really not to bad. The room is not huge and the door has a nice window so this gives a nice view outside.
