I removed the childish spat that erupted here. (Take that crap somewhere else, seriously)... But for the record, it's not the Bloodhound Gang, you burke. It goes father back to old school late 70's hip hop, it's a call and response chant, and it appeared on a number of records in the early 80's. I make no claim to be an expert on the genre, but it's definitely worth checking out Parliment, Gang Starr, Curtis Blow, old Run D.M.C., etc. because it's probably there that you first hear it.

No worries! I hate to be the cop or whatever, but I just like to keep it positive here. If someone says something ignorant or unjustly negative about the subject matter (Talking Heads), rest assured I will remove the comment as soon as I see it. Don't feed the trolls... like I said: no worries!

Your all incorrect ...( 18 hours ago by LostHisMarbles)
Your all incorrect cop actually used to mean "to catch" or "apprehend" as that was commonly something that police did, police became know as "Coppers" (someone who cops). "Constable on Patrol" Is a clever and popular misconception. Naming them Copper as in the metal used in the making of buttons or badges is just ridiculous if you think about it. Chief of police doesnt make sense as they arent all chiefs of police. Anyway im done lol.

Actually Torch39 is ...( 6 hours ago by redcons2)
Actually Torch39 is close to the correct answer. In the early days of the NYPD the Patrolmen wore Copper shields (Badges for the layperson). This caused them to be called "Copper(s)" and shortened to "Cop(s)". The reason I know this is true.. I'm in the NYPD and when I went through the academy they had a big display window with a timeline history of the NYPD. I remember lining up waiting for our gym blocks reading the timelines. So there you go!

The use of the word ...( 5 hours ago by LostHisMarbles)
The use of the word copper for police predates the use of copper(the metal) in NYPD badges. Cop is a verb it means to capture. Copper would be a person who captures. This is the accepted entomology for its use as "police"
