Like novapj said, pistols are excellent for CQB and room clearing. Pistols are very accurate at less than 30 yards. What big disadvantage does a pistol have vs. a carbine a short range? Pistol cartridges have use larger caliber rounds = more stopping power than a 5.56mm M4/AR15. carbine

Another thing, this a most likely platoon A or B not Platoon D (SWAT) which would be using HK MP5s for room clearance. Pistols and SMGs are preferred for CQB. Rifle/Carbines are good if you want penetration and range of up to 300 meters. Shotguns...well outside of breaching they're not the best tactical weapons IMO.

For all those that are curious this is Metropolitan Divisions 'C Platoon', not 'D Platoon' (SWAT) conducting initial entry training.
For those even trying to compare Police tactical teams with military special operations forces, save your word count and stick to your video games as they're two very different things with different ROE's and objectives. Ridiculous to attempt to compare the two regardless of training evolutions they share and exchange.

Good God!! Improper stacks on the doors and a load of other issues that aren't going to be mentioned here since its a public forum. Muzzle discipline needs serious work too. I expected a lot more from LAPD Metro but I guess everything has gone to the shitter with their training.

pcsbyte, what's the problem with this being on the internet considering it was a tv show...that was seen all over the world back in the late 90's? A show promoted by the LAPD themselves... 'Bad guys" can search and find far more revealing training methods with a few clicks and the use of Google...

You're only shown certain things. Remember, the LAPD isnt going to show on national tv any of their tactics. What you saw was a watered down version of what their training is really like. And, this footage is about ten years old. Either way, what you see on tv is not exactly how they operate. I've been told by my good friend. He's in the PD, and has friends in SWAT.

The group I work with has instructed LAPD SWAT and I'm part of the instructor cadre who has worked with some of them. I know how they operate and how they don't. They need a lot of work. LAPD is one of the more well known agencies but they aren't one of the best...by far!!
