La Ciociara (Two Women) with Sophia Loren is an Italian movie released in 1960. It is the story of Cesira, an Italian mother played by Sophia Loren, who leaves World War II Rome to protect her young daughter Rosetta from the incessant bombing. Cesira and Rosetta flee to Ciociaria, Cesira's native home in the country mountains of Italy.
Soon after news of the downfall of Italian dictator Mussolini arrives, the two begin their return to Rome, hoping for Italian liberation by allied forces. The country is still rife with danger however and their journey home is one one heartbreak and suffering.
Sophia Loren won an Academy Award for best actress in this movie, the first to be awarded to an actress for a non-English speaking role.

Oh well, I suppose this was good enough in 1960, but I urge you to read the book to understand this story, because I don't think this movie can do justice to it.

I have always admired Italian cinema as it is so real and shows the deepest emotions...Italian women are brave and beautiful...I think Sophia Loren and her daughter, in the film...both have done justice to their respective roles...the movie highlights the delicate bond between mom and daughter...an excellent movie...thank u..hwy61visitor

That bond was certainly put to the test here. I like this movie for the resilience shown by both Cesira and Rosetta under such desperate circumstances.
