Uploaded by: mlibe Video Description:
Three WWII veterans return home to small-town America after the war, to find their lives irrevocably changed by their military experience. Together, the three must find a way to come to terms with their experiences and pick up the pieces, lest wartime turn out to be "the best years of their lives".

I just realized how remarkable Teresa Wright was in this film. In the final scene, we only see Teresa's face (not Dana Andrews'). She doesn't utter a word, but the expression she conveys is powerful in contrast to Andrews' grim predictions for their future. An amazing way to end a film!

I remember seeing this movie for the first time and being upset when I heard it was almost 3hours long, but it flew by. These were the days when every minute of a movie counted and moved the plot along for a reason. Not just for special effects. Thanks for posting.

Seeing this movie meant a lot to me at a very low point in my life. A beautiful film. I always get choked up at the end.

One of the best movies of all time. Certainly one of my favorites. Love the interaction of these families who may have otherwise never crossed paths even though they lived in the same time. Isn't that nature of communities in the heartache and shared burden of war? A classic. Thanks for posting.

This should be required viewing by all the Hollywood "producers" of today, just to see that Hollywood of today can't hold a candle to yesterday.

This is my all time favorite. I first saw it when I was about 30 years old on a PBS station that showed classic movies on Sunday afternoon. I have watched it no less than 100 times--dvd, vcr, reruns on TCM. It is as revelant today with our returning troops as it was when produced in 1946.

Yes. It is a lenghty movie but, there were numerous times during the film when I just couldn't get enough of it. And that last scene--talk about an emotional climax! There's an undeniable and abiding authenticity about this picture that takes it far beyond being simply an artistic masterpiece. It performs a 'public service' for those who experienced The War and an eloquent testimony of same to Americans in 2008, and to future generations.

No, I don't have immediate access to the movie myself and I searched YouTube hoping that someone had downloaded it already. One potential problem is that, due to its length, and the fact that most movies here are broken down into 10 min. segments, there would need to be at least 15 installments. I've seen some films done that way on YouTube, but its considerable work for the poster.

One of the best movies ever. A true cenematic gem that potrays the triumphs and tragedies of a group of returning World War II veterans poignantly. Demonstrates the strength of a willing spirit itself with the courage, compassion, and belief of a few who believe freedom comes with a price and sometimes to realize destiny you have to step outside of the path intended for you and dare to go for the road less taken.
