He was so good to her and she was such a fool.I like that he was willing to let her go off with that other man.He loved her and he could of told her the truth but he wanted to see her happy.He's to good for her. I thought this movie was beautiful.Why can't there be more men willing too...go the distance for the woman they love.I know way to many lazy men its, so sad.I only read about them in books or see them in movies.Its just sad.There all just a dream nothing more.

So correct about that. I work with a lot of men in the line of work I do. Sadly there all rude, I've been in college, army, and now the job I have now and have not found one gentlemen. I see only a glimpses once in a while but sadly I get disappointed in the end. Sorry my words were sting but I have had one of those lives where there are no gentalmen only the negative is shown to me, but I still hold onto hope that I could be surprised one day. Hope is all we really have in the end.

But think about it... I really like Alan as well, but just think would he be an ordinary man working in a coffee shop or anywhere... would you notice him?? appreciate him?? I guess you would state tat he's handsome.
What I think is that people become beatiful in our eyes by their actions, words, manners...
It's who they are that makes them beatiful in your eyes not how they really look like. So I take my hat off for Alan Rickman for being able to show who Colonel is:)

I am not a romantic... except when it comes to jane austen novels.
Everytime, I read this book or watch this amazing film, it moves me. The Colonel's story is so terribly heart-wrenching, add that with Alan Rickman's performance and it is powerful. One of the only 5 films that brings tears to my eyes.
And, as already mentioned... Alan is truly a fine man in nearly every way. You know Alan actually means handsome, lol. Plus, those intriguing mannerisms, and then there's that wonderful voice
