then bono did a version with mary. very good, i thought. but bizarrely enough, johnny beats them all. everything a matter of taste obviously but damn, he somehow seems to know what he is singing about.

This is amazing. I always like the song "One by U2" but most cause' I think it has an amazing lyrics, not cause' of the music or the voice of Bono.
But Johnny Cash singing this song makes it so perfect. Johnny his voice has power, feeling! It's unbelievable how 1 persone and only 1 persone can make such a good music without needing a full band.
Only Johnny, his voice and his guitar.
He's the best, he's god, he's Johhny Cash!
His music makes me feel happy, good, sad, everything!

C´mon people! Johnnie Cash had a beautiful voice, but not when he recorded this. He passed away a few years later so he was ill and already lost the power of his voice. I love him but the original is far better than any cover. Aniway, this is the best cover of One

In school (some 20 years ago) all the hip kids listened to U2,- I listened to Johnny Cash, and still do. Was lucky to see him live ,three times here in Denmark.
