I didn't think MacBooks broke that easily. My wife has had hers for two years, and she drops it at least once a week, and we haven't had a single problem with it. Not counting the time she spilled water on the keyboard, and that was covered under the warranty.

i spilled orange juice on my computer and had to use my sisters computer for like 6 months.. the other day i tried to turn my computer on and it miraculously workedd im so happy

The rubber band (inside the DVDRW) that is wrapped around gears (responsible for opening the ejecting the disc) must of somehow got off track when you dropped it, hence the grinding noise (that being the gears). When you tried it a year later somehow it must of repositioned itself when you inserted / ejected a disc.

USB DVD R/W may cost a little more($60) but you can move it From one computer to the other Easy.
