Tradewinds Boeing 747 Rejected Takeoff Crash

Video Description:
On June 7, 2006 at approximately 7:03 AM local, a Trade Winds cargo Boeing B747-200, N922FT, overran the end of RW 18 after aborting the takeoff due to an engine failure at Medellin - Jose Maria Cordova Airport (SKRG), Rio Negro, Colombia. There were no injuries to the 6 crewmembers onboard. The airplane was substantially damaged.
The METAR was wind calm visibility 7000 VCSH BKN008 SCT 080 16/14 A3037.
The investigation is being conducted by the Aeronautica Civil, Republica de Columbia. The US NTSB is assisting the Columbian investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.

V2 is the speed at which following the sudden failure of 1 engine the plane can still climb.You are right, we dont use v1 and v2 in light aircraft as such but in biz jets we do.B747PFE has said the engine blew up at v1 so in this case the crew did the best thing and a no go was decided.Technically 1 knot above v1 the aircraft should take off irrespective of the failure but common sense must prervail and if i was P1 with an engine hanging from a pylon at v1+5 i wouldnt be going anywhere!!!

really? so what happens if theres a runway thats shorter than another runway, or if the runway is wet and would take the aircraft longer to stop therefore no turning back speed needs to be slower? ...work it out genius, 80knts is nothing to do with no turning back speed, this speed is actually represented by V1 .

That"s Exactly what i thought,i always thought that V1 took into account Weight,Speed,Runway Length,and Condition of the Runway,ie: Wet,Dry,Snow, and that there should be sufficient Runway left in the event of a Rejected Take Off prior to V1 to bring the Aircraft to a Safe Stop.Was the Whole Crew Fired or just the Commander.

this is compleatly incorrect, V1 changes with aircraft type/weight/runway length/runway condition/ ect. 80KTS is a callout to check the airspeed indicator. 80KTS may be the V1 speed for a certain aircraft in certain conditions, but not all. If something happens before V1 then you RTO, after V1 you are commited to the takeoff. simple

i know the pilot...he lost one engine just after V1 and thought he could stop it. everyone gave him hell about it because he could had easily gotten that plane in the air after V1 on 3 engines

Tradewinds managment told the crew they would get a copy of the accident report and blackbox data. THAT never happened!! So the V1 speed is still in question. The Captain had a split second decsion to make.. When that engine blew. The Captain made a decsion right,or wrong he made a decsion, the crew is alive and not scattered all over the fog shroud mountains. So for all you I would of, you should of and how come you did not do this people! Keep up the arm chair QBing the comments are to read.

Lots of uninformed comment on here. At the V1 callout, the pilot takes his hands off the throttle. There is no way any sane pilot would reach back to the throttle and abort after a V1 callout, as this would be highly unprofessional. What may have happened is that the crew calculated V1 slightly too high, not taking the wet runway into account and the abort decision took place just before V1.

For all of the ignorant people that watched this video. The only people onboard were the flight crew. Nobody else because it is a carrier aircraft.
