I'm at the library and getting goosebumps listening to this.
The only way it could've been better is if they unplugged Bono's guitar. That 10 second stretch from about 1:13 to 1:23 is godawfully painful on the ears. Can imagine Edge in soundcheck saying:
"Ok, we can't have this sounding too good. Bono, can you simulate the sound of nails on a chalkboard with your guitar? You can? Great. After the first verse, f'in run with it."
bono's clear vocals, larry tight drumming, adam's deep bass tones and edge's amazing guitar
I wonder if he uses soundcheck to see if he can hit the high notes. Because there's nothing worse than trying to hit them and not having it in you. Well, there are a lot of worse things, but it's bad. And I wonder how he came to sing the Pavarotti part. Did he try it as a goof and actually pulled it off. That happened with me with the "feeeel" part of "Vertigo" at karaoke. Just figured I'd croke it out and then I nailed it.
A lot of memories with the song, ahhhhhh
