The enemy will be shooting 5.56 NATO, 7.62x39, and maybe some old 7.62x54R, and 8mmx57. All of which might be lead or steel core. 7.62x39 125 grain steel core alone travels at 2300FPS and has 1500 ft-lbs of energy. Stopping small arms lead core fire is one thing but stopping what matters is another.

Yes I think it's probably inevitable.
But it has little to do with quality or materials, and more to do with cost/bennefit/effectiveness ratio, overhead capitol, and in the end whether or not congress is willing to flip the bill. Most of the governing body politic in this so called democratic/republic could care less about a soldiers health and far more about what it will cost them personally.
Also on the boards on the premeire American weapons companies sit the top Military brass.

So you don't have to look down to unholster your weapon.(Most soldiers don't have to do this regardless). But you DO have to look down at your crotch to see what time it is. From a distance the sniper will think you're fucking playing with yourself right before he kills you.
I think the suit needs a few modifications.
Not to mention should the enemy get hold of one of thos suits how will we know friend from foe?
Our enemies get strong on what we leave behind.
