Yea, he first appears in the final episode of season two and is seen a few times after that but is part Magneto's Acolytes. But he does join the X-Men by the end of the series.

Yeah, Colossus is 18 and Kitty is 14 when they are first introduced in the comics and their age difference actually comes up as a conflict a couple times even in the older comics. One especially important one was during the Brood saga when they believed they were going to die and Kitty tries to convince Colossus that they should sleep together in case they didn't live long enough for her to become of age.
