It's funny you mention this because about 5 days ago they aired this movie on CityTV. I highly, highly recommend that everyone watch this movie, it's got english subtitles, so don't worry.

I strongly agree with you, melistaaurora. Bollywood flicks ain't even worth my time. Instead of watching Bollywood movies, I play video games, which are WAY better than watching Bollywood movies!

this was an amazing movie , but still Mira Nair lacks the depth in her work unlike Satyajit ray , there is allways certain somthing missing in her movies to put her parallel with Ray , she's more like Shyam Benegal.

benegal has his own style -ray is a poet while benegal is a realist -both have their place in cinema -nair showed a promise but is making crap now with vanity fair -i did like monsoon wedding tho not great but definitely good but namesake was a letdown -an indifferent and pointless adaptation which had no soul and lacked sophistication too

this was & and still remains the best movie from & about india since the parallel-cinema era of the early 80s. in fact, this is personally amongst my top 5 fav films of all times. mira nair's best. and exposed the non-south-asian world to the realities of urban street life in india in a very accessible way.
